OTHER NEWS

Miss Snark

A blogging agent with an attitude.  She is not specific to children’s literature, but gives good basic info about dealing with agents.

Fuse #8

An unnamed (probably a group) Manhattan librarian posts reviews of children’s books, interviews and links to children’s authors.

The Purple Crayon

Harold Underdown’s site is full of useful information for children’s writers. He is most famous for his ability to track editor moves in the book industry. His postings are also a barometer which shows shrinkage and growth at various publishing houses. An important tool to keep track of your favorite editors.

REALLY BIG NEWS

Take another look at our banner!  Kirby Larson, WWW MFA children’s faculty, has won a 2007 Newbery Honor for her book Hattie Big Sky.

I’m about to write a cliché, but please don’t edit this one out.  The Newbery Honor could not have gone to a nicer person.  Kirby writes and teaches from her heart.  She has the ability to bring out the best in each story and each student.  Kirby has made a positive impact on everyone in the MFA program.

Okay, okay, enough mushy stuff.  You may be wondering what HAVING A NEWBERY HONOR WINNER ON OUR FACULTY (sorry, had to do that) means for the children’s track.  The answer is—we get to brag even more.   Anyone who has attended one of our residencies knows that this program is organized around writers and poets who know their craft and are gifted teachers.

Congratulations Kirby!  We are proud to be attending an MFA program with you on the faculty.
